The Art of the Moment
There are very special and enchanting moments in life. Often they only last a fraction of a second, often we have to look closely to see the magic of a moment and often a scene just looks ordinary but represents life in its full beauty. My efforts are to find, preserve and show the omnipresent art that surrounds us: The Art Of The Moment!

Typically I find these moments best when I work with people, and hence most of my work is made up of portrait, events, street and candid photography, as well as editorial and corporate assignments that involve a human factor. My private ongoing project is to study the streets of Cambridge in all its variations.

I am research scientist based in Cambridge (UK) and enjoy working in this profession, but when time permits, I find photography extremely rewarding. My scientific mindset demands attention to detail without loosing the big picture, which nicely translates to my photography in many ways. Yet I had to accept that the creative aspects can only evolve over time without ever achieving perfection. I like the saying of Henri Cartier-Bresson "Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst", which kind of shows that photography is a journey of a lifetime. Clearly, 10,000 photographs is not the same today as it was at the time, but you get the idea. Besides Henri Cartier-Bresson, my most important artistic influences are Richard Avedon, Karl Bissinger to more contemporary work from masters like Zack Arias, Drew Garner, Chase Jarvis, Annie Leibovitz and Joe McNally. Regular meet-ups with the Cambridge Camera Club and exchange with some groups on Flickr help me to move along.
Freelance photography
I accept assignments in any of the following fields:

1. Portraiture (visit portfolio)

My approach is informal and (optionally) involves you in the planning, design and picture taking stage to ensure you get the look you are after. Typically portrait sessions are on location using either the 'natural' available light or I bring a mobile studio setup, depending on your requirements, which we identify and discuss prior to the photo shoot. I will make all efforts to satisfy your requirements. Portrait session in and around Cambridge cost £50 per hour. Do not hesitate to contact me for discounted rates, e.g. for half-day or full-day coverage or if you are a charity or organisation with limited budget.

2. Events (visit portfolio)

Large events such as society annual balls, dinners or black tie events often require more than one photographer to deal with the huge workload. Therefore I usually team up with my business partner Samuel Kerrien. We set up our own mobile studio two hours prior to the event and then shoot about 1000-2000 photos (assuming 200-300 guests) and condense and post-process these to roughly 250-500 pictures total.

We don't sell prints on the evening but provide free access to an online proofing service within a couple of days after the event from where prints can be ordered at moderate cost. Our strategy is to offer affordable print costs and in turn selling more compared with traditional pricing to cover our costs.

Often we cover events for fee, but please contact us for a quote.
3. Corporate or editorial assignments (visit portfolio)

My corporate assignments are mostly from high-tech industry or cutting edge scientific environments, where a combination of creative and professional photography is required. In particular my mobile lighting experience helps to achieve any desired look you require. Please feel free to contact me via eMail and specify your needs.

Lastly, I greatly enjoy working for creative editorial assignments, so the more crazy your story or your requirements the better. Contact me and we can discuss what can be done.
Testimonials - or what others have to say ...

Thank you SO much for taking the photos at our ball. They are wonderful and all my friends have gone crazy about your style. You were definitely one of the best decisions we made as a society and your photos have captured memories we will all remember for a lifetime.

The photos look amazing and there are soo many! Seriously, thanks for all the effort put in!

Thanks Markus! I just read your mail and saw the photos. Wonderful wonderful, I don't know what to say to express my appreciation and admire. so happy to have them.

Just wanted to thank you for the amazing job you did, the photos came out stunningly,

You guys were brilliant on the night of the ball, thanks again! All of us on the committee were impressed! The quality of the photos are great, I ordered mine a couple of days ago :)

Those are astonishing shoots! Could you let me know if you do that again some time?

Business information
Markus Brosch
